Our Structure
NALAG operates under a democratic governance framework that guarantees representation, accountability, and effective leadership. Its governance is organized into three main organs:
- The National Delegates Conference,
- The National Executive Council (NEC), and
- The Secretariat.
National Delegates Conference
The National Delegates Conference is the supreme decision-making body of the Association. It is composed of five (5) delegates from each District Assembly, with the requirement that at least one delegate must be a woman in line with Affirmative Action – and all members of the National Executive Council.
The Conference is convened biennially and serves as the highest platform for policy deliberations. It sets the broad policy agenda of the Association, reviews and approves strategic priorities, and makes constitutional or organizational amendments when necessary. It also provides the forum for electing the leadership of the Association and ensuring collective ownership of its vision. The resolutions of the Conference provide the framework for implementation by the NEC and the Secretariat.
National Executive Council (NEC)
The National Executive Council is the governing body of NALAG and is elected at the National Delegates Conference for a two-year mandate. The NEC consists of 23 members, comprising:
- President
- 1st Vice President
- 2nd Vice President
- National Treasurer
- Two (2) Trustees
- Women’s Caucus Representative elected by the women’s caucus of the
- National Delegates Conference
- Sixteen (16) Regional Representatives, each representing the District Assemblies in Ghana’s administrative regions.
In addition, the Council may invite any member of the immediate past Council to its meetings to ensure continuity and institutional memory.
The NEC provides strategic direction, oversees the implementation of Conference resolutions, and ensures that the Secretariat executes its functions effectively. It plays a critical role in policy advocacy, institutional strengthening, and mobilizing support for the Association’s activities.

The Secretariat
The Secretariat is the administrative and operational arm of the Association. It is headed by a General Secretary, who is appointed by the National Executive Council and also serves as Secretary to the NEC.
The Secretariat manages the day-to-day affairs of the Association, coordinates advocacy and lobbying efforts, develops and executes programs, maintains communication with members and stakeholders, and provides technical, logistical, and advisory support to the NEC and the Conference. It ensures continuity of operations and implementation of policies between Conferences.
