NALAG serves as the collective voice of Local Authorities in Ghana, engaging Government, Parliament, development partners, and other stakeholders to shape policies that strengthen local governance. We champion legal and institutional reforms, advocate for fiscal decentralization, and ensure that the interests of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) are recognized in national decision-making processes.

NALAG serves as the policy bridge between local assemblies and central government, ensuring that the perspectives, challenges, and priorities of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) are reflected in national governance decisions.

Our advocacy work includes:

• Legislative Engagement – Contributing to the drafting, review, and amendment of laws and regulations that affect local governance, fiscal decentralization, and administrative autonomy.

• Policy Consultation & Representation – Participating in national and regional policy dialogues, forums, and consultations to influence decisions that impact local development.

• Lobbying for Resources & Reforms – Working with ministries, Parliament, and development partners to secure increased funding, improved resource allocation, and equitable development support for local authorities.

• Public Awareness & Sensitization – Educating citizens, traditional leaders, and civil society on decentralization, participatory governance, and accountability.

• Building Strategic Alliances – Partnering with civil society organizations, private sector groups, and international networks to amplify the voice of local government and promote shared policy goals.

• Monitoring Policy Implementation – Tracking the execution of key decentralization and governance policies to ensure that commitments made at the national level translate into tangible local impact.

Through consistent and informed advocacy, NALAG ensures that local government remains central to Ghana’s democratic and developmental agenda.
