Research, Monitoring & Evaluation
NALAG undertakes research, policy analysis, and documentation of best practices to inform evidence-based decision-making. By piloting innovative approaches in governance and service delivery, we generate practical knowledge that supports Assemblies in responding to emerging challenges such as urbanization, climate change, and digital transformation.
Through its Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation (M&E) initiatives, NALAG systematically studies the challenges, successes, and emerging trends within Ghana’s local government system to inform policy formulation, institutional reforms, and performance improvement across Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Our research and evaluation efforts focus on:
-
Policy Analysis & Development – Conducting studies and producing policy briefs that provide actionable recommendations to enhance decentralization and local governance frameworks.
-
Service Delivery Assessments – Monitoring how assemblies deliver essential services such as sanitation, education, health, and infrastructure to identify best practices and areas for improvement.
-
Governance Performance Reviews – Tracking the administrative and financial performance of assemblies to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency.
-
Impact Evaluation of Programs & Projects – Measuring outcomes of NALAG-led and partner-supported initiatives to ensure they deliver tangible benefits to communities.
-
Knowledge Generation & Dissemination – Producing reports, publications, and case studies to share lessons learned and promote continuous improvement across all local authorities.
-
Data-Driven Decision Support – Building data systems that help assemblies plan, monitor, and report effectively on their development priorities.
By translating research findings into practical policy guidance and performance tools, NALAG supports both local and national stakeholders in strengthening governance outcomes. Our evidence-based approach ensures that every reform or intervention is rooted in data, experience, and the real needs of Ghana’s local communities.
